UP whips Ateneo in UAAP football opener
by Adrian Taningco (Tinig ng Plaridel)
The University of the Philippines kicked off its football crown defense during the opening day of the 74th UAAP football season with a hard-fought and ill-tempered 2-0 win over the Ateneo de Manila University Saturday at the Ateneo High School Football Field.
Juan Miguel Roy and Nii Aryee Ayi struck for the defending champions either side of halftime to defeat their neighbors from Katipunan, whose goalkeeper was sent off ten minutes from time.
“A win is a win, but I’m far from satisfied,” said UP Coach Anto Gonzales. “Overall the first game is always the most difficult game. I hope things will only get better,” he continued.
The Maroons took the lead in the 24th minute, courtesy of senior Roy. The defender drilled a perfectly executed corner kick taken by last season’s Rookie of the Year Jinggoy Valmayor past the diving Ateneo goalie RS Mantos. [read more]

First time.
Last December 10, I participated the Speedo National Age Group Triathlon- UPLB Leg. I joined the mini-sprint category (400m swim, 16K bike, 3K run) and finished it.
I did not have much problem with the swim and the run parts. I do that everyday. The cycling was difficult because I haven’t tried the bike I used before the race. I did not train for that. I think everyone in my category cycled past me. But it was okay. It was my first time anyway. Thanks to the run part. Nakahabol ako ng konti. :)) The transition was really difficult particularly the cycling to running. Pagbaba ko sa bike, parang nagpe-pedal pa rin ‘yong paa ko. Hindi ko mahinto. haha.
The athletes and the marshals were very uplifting. Whenever you stop or you look as if you’re gonna quit, they will cheer you up.

Look at my shoes. They’re very dirty haha. And the burger, that’s the reward we got after the race.
Next race is January 22. It’s aquathlon. :)

Claimed my KOTR race kit! I wanted to change the distance but it was too late. Sayang 16.8K sana tatakbuhin ko. :P
Anyway, I’ll just aim for a new 5K PR. Bitin!

The National University Pep Squad showed a huge improvement compared to their performance last year. They placed third in the Group Stunts Category and finished sixth in this year’s cheerdance tilt.
